%%- After all's been said and written, and come to think of it, what are the places that have relatively more freedom of speech, where one may harshly criticize government, authority, or mainstream ideologies without fear of persecution, supression or retaliation? ROC/Taiwan, India, many parts in Europe, all English speaking countries except Singapore, and a few other places. I wouldn't count Japan and Hong Kong in. %%- For the life of me, I don't see how "No Country For Old Men" deserves to be the Best Picture of the year or even got nominated for that honor. I know the message the film is trying to deliver. It's just that it's delivered in such a depressing and unpleasant way. The "motifs of chance", the landscape, and morality? Come on, they're in plenty of other films too. Good directing maybe. Well produced, I'll give them that. But a horror movie at best.
